The majority of Sevan Bicacki's works are one of a kind and unique. Although the sources of his inspiration are local -- basically the way he perceives life as a resident of Istanbul in the past -- the outcome is endowed with a universal spirit and beauty. One aspect of this is his revitalization of Byzantine and Ottoman arts in order to create jewelry that reflects the spirit of Istanbul. While the work uses precious materials in its construction, he likes to mix in lots of other types of materials. This way, the jewelry is not worn solely as a demonstration of the wearer's ability to afford scarce commodities. It is instead a material manifestation of the artist's vision. That is why, for example, miniature portraits by the artist Hasan Kale, are important elements in Sevan's "Icons" collection
